Most over-the-counter medicines are covered by MedStar Family Choice when requested on a prescription by your provider (Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant). Your doctor should send a prescription to your pharmacy. Refills are permitted. Prescriptions may be written for the State limited 12-month maximum. OTC products covered are restricted to generics when available. Brand names are provided as reference only. There may be cost maximums in place where more than one manufacturer (maker) of the same type of product is available.

You do not need a prescription for condoms or emergency contraception pills (like Plan B). Please take a copy of this document to the pharmacy counter with you to help your pharmacy process the charge for you. Pharmacists are often not aware of this benefit and do not know how to complete the process.

Take a copy of the MedStar Family Choice Quick Reference List to the pharmacy!
