Who we are

MedStar Family Choice is a subsidiary of MedStar Health, the region’s largest healthcare provider. We are a provider-sponsored Managed Care Plan serving the District of Columbia and Maryland. In the District of Columbia, we provide services to individuals eligible for the DC Healthy Families and Healthy DC Programs. In Maryland, we provide services to individuals eligible for the Maryland HealthChoice and Maryland Children's Health Programs.

Preparing for New Medicaid Work Requirements in One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R.1)

H.R.1 is a new bill. It expands work requirements for Medicaid. As of 1/1/2027, adults aged 19-54 will need to complete at least 80 hours a month of qualifying work or community engagement activities (unless they are exempt). These activities include employment, certain job training programs, certain school programs, community service, and any combination of these activities. The bill also requires more frequent eligibility checks and documentation, and restricts retroactive coverage(s).
